Cert Courses – Respond To Fire Emergency In Buildings
Course Overview
On completion of this unit, the learner will have the knowledge and be equipped with the application skills to function as a member of an emergency response team in order to implement the emergency response skills during an emergency incident in buildings.
This includes:
- Introduce or reinforce the relevant legislation surrounding the formations and activation of CERT
- Familiarize participants with the various possible fire hazards and the usage of fire protection systems in buildings
- Instruct participants on the proper donning and operating procedures of Breathing Apparatus (BA) sets
- Familiarize the students with the appropriate techniques for use during fire-fighting in high-rise buildings and snatch rescue operations
- Instruct participants on correct methods to conduct initial fire-fighting using various extinguishing mediums.
Who Should Attend
It is targeted at individuals who are currently involved in their organisation’s CERT in any capacity.
Pre-Requisites
Literacy and Numeracy
- WSQ Employability Skills Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 4, or equivalent.
Working Experience
- Recommended to have 1 year working experience in any industry.
Assumed Attitudes
- Self-directed, with an open and analytical mind.
Course Outline
The competency unit would be appropriate for those with operational responsibilities.
- Interpret emergency response legislation and guidelines
- Identify fire hazard scenarios and usage of fire protection system in buildings
- Demonstrate use of breathing apparatus according to BA wearer guidelines and entrapment procedures
- Assess the emergency situation and conduct firefighting to contain fire in high rise buildings
- Participate in rescue and evacuation exercise
- Handover incident and provide operational assistance to the appropriate body

Theory and Practical
Attendance & Course Completion Requirements
- Learner must achieve minimum of 75% attendance for entire course.
- Successfully complete (Pass) both the theory and practical assessment.
Training Grant
For Company Sponsored participants, to qualify for SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) Training Grant, registered participants have to be under the direct payroll of the sponsoring organisation. Please be informed that any rejection of training grant due to the participants’ not meeting the requirement, we will have to invoice the rejected training grant amount portion to the sponsoring organisation.
